Last Tuesday, our colleague Justo Tenorio took part as a lecturer in the IAAP Training Course, organised by the Waste and Soil Quality Service of the Directorate-General for Environmental Sustainability and Circular Economy of the Regional Government of Andalusia, entitled “Soil Biodiversity Monitoring and Soil Health: Applications”.

During his session on opportunities for environmental valorisation, he focused on bioremediation, presenting KEPLER’s experience in both laboratory and field settings. He highlighted the potential of this technique as a sustainable and effective solution for the remediation of contaminated soils, in line with the principles of the circular economy and the waste hierarchy.

The presentation emphasised the importance of microbial diversity as a key component of biological decontamination processes, as well as the need to strengthen collaboration between public authorities, the scientific community and industry in order to advance the development, validation and implementation of this technology. Several real-world case studies were also presented to illustrate its practical applications.

We believe that initiatives such as this play a vital role in addressing current and future environmental challenges, while raising awareness of the importance of protecting, conserving and restoring our soils.
