KEPLER Participates in the 19th International Bioenergy Congress, “Renewable Gases: Local Energy for a More Sustainable, Competitive and Resilient Economy”, and the Renewable Gas Trade Fair in Valladolid
1 de October de 2026Once again, KEPLER Ingeniería y Ecogestión has participated in the 19th International Bioenergy Congress, “Renewable Gases: Local Energy for a More Sustainable, Competitive and Resilient Economy”, held alongside the Renewable Gas Trade Fair in Valladolid. During the event, KEPLER had the opportunity to present a new specialized training initiative: the University Programme in Biogas Plant Management and Operation.
The biogas and biomethane sector is evolving rapidly. As new projects continue to emerge, so does the demand for qualified professionals capable of managing, operating, and maintaining these facilities.
To address this growing need, Universidad Isabel I and KEPLER have jointly developed this programme, offering a strongly technical and practical approach through a fully online learning format.
At this year’s International Bioenergy Congress, our colleague Dr. Cynthia Alcántara presented a scientific poster entitled: “PATHOGEN REMOVAL EFFICIENCY: A COMPARISON OF PASTEURIZATION, COMPOSTING, AND ANAEROBIC DIGESTION”This evidence-based literature review concludes that thermophilic anaerobic digestion, composting, and pasteurization achieve comparable and equally effective levels of pathogen reduction in manure.
The findings indicate that all three methods are technically suitable for meeting the specific hygienization criteria established under Commission Regulation (EU) No 142/2011, demonstrating that a prior pasteurization step is not always necessary. Avoiding this additional treatment stage could lead to significant cost savings and improved process efficiency.
Over the course of the event, in addition to presenting our new training programme and research on pathogen removal through anaerobic digestion, we have had the opportunity to exchange knowledge, experiences, and perspectives with companies, professionals, and experts who are shaping the future of renewable gases.

The Strategic Role of Biogas Plants in Agriculture, Livestock Farming, Energy and the Local Economy
Few types of infrastructure generate as much debate today as biogas plants. Numerous local residents’ groups have emerged in opposition to them, and many of their concerns are understandable. However, we believe the discussion has become polarized and is often based more on perceptions than on rigorous studies and reliable data. A constructive debate would […]
