Naturgy and Kepler to build their first renewable gas production plant in Andalusia
4 de October de 2023- The facility will be located in Utrera (Seville) and will produce 44 GWh of biomethane per year, equivalent to the consumption of more than 10,500 households, from the treatment of 68,000 tons of by-products. by-products agricultural and livestock by-products from the area.
- It is scheduled to start operations in 2025.
Andalusia has been the autonomous community chosen for the development of the project because it is the second in Spain with the greatest potential for biomethane production due to the large volume of agricultural and livestock by-products that can be treated to obtain biomethane and the demand for quality fertilizers. Likewise, the region has thousands of hectares in need of the fertilizers produced, which will promote sustainable crop nutrition. The Utrera project will be able to valorize 68,000 tons per year of substrates from agriculture and livestock, promoting the circular economy of the region and its transition to a sustainable economic model. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 44 GWh of biomethane, a high quality renewable gas with qualities comparable to those of natural gas, sufficient to cover the gas supply of more than 10,500 Andalusian homes. The facility is scheduled to start operating in 2025. KEPLER, Ingeniería y Ecogestión, S.L. is an Environmental and Renewable Energy consultancy with 28 years of experience, of which 23 years in the biogas and environmental valorization sector. The company’s portfolio ranges from the first preliminary studies in its own laboratory that include the analytical characterization of substrates and biogas potential, the elaboration of projects, the turnkey delivery of biomethanization plants, as well as their operation and maintenance, offering the physicochemical, microbiological (molecular biology) and physicochemical monitoring analyses required to control the optimum performance of the process. The plant will be equipped with the Hyperthermophilic Biological Pretreatment technology of its German partner Snow Leopard Projects GmbH, which generates advantages over conventional technology such as the possibility of treating fibrous and fatty materials, reducing the residence time, obtaining a higher percentage of biogas and obtaining perfectly sanitized fertilizers. The renewable gas obtained in the process will be injected into the network of Nedgia, the gas distributor of the Naturgy group, for consumption by households and companies.

The new EU Soil Monitoring Directive: a decisive step towards soil health in Europe
Over 25% of the planet’s biodiversity lives beneath our feet, and soil fertility is directly or indirectly responsible for 95% of the food we consume. Based on this data and in response to the threats to the health of our soils, Directive (EU) 2025/2360 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 November […]
