Participation in the 4th International Meeting on New Strategies for Bioremediation and Environmental Restoration – BioRemid 2026

26 de June de 2026

Last Wednesday, 24th June, our colleague Cynthia Alcántara delivered a presentation entitled “Nature-Based Materials as Key Agents for Broadening the Applicability of Bioremediation Technologies” at the 4th International Meeting on New Strategies for Bioremediation and Environmental Restoration (BioRemid 2026), held in Florence, Italy.

The main take-home messages of this talk were:

  • The application of nature-based solutions represents a key strategy in the design of sustainable remediation projects, enabling the recovery of soil resources without altering their hydrophysical, chemical, and microbiological properties.
  • The regulatory framework is evolving toward a circularity- and sustainability-based approach that requires new strategies and priorities in remediation projects. Applied solutions must avoid landfill disposal, thereby helping to curb the accumulation of environmental liabilities.
  • Innovation and continuous improvement are essential to maintain the competitiveness of biomimetic solutions in the remediation market, reducing costs and timeframes while increasing their versatility.
  • The application of pre-acclimated bacterial consortia, fungal enzyme extracts, or coffee waste are examples of nature-based materials as innovative approaches to enhance applicability and broaden the market niche of bioremediation.

KEPLER team would like to thank the ALL4BIOREM Cluster for the invitation and for the outstanding organisation of the event.
